11/11: So many people are asking about generations in the Mini Nubians. Why you ask? Isn’t Purebred Better? The answer is NO! And here is why I’m breeding my Mini Nubian Buck to Purebred Nubian Does

These “First” Generation Kids will have better Breed Characteristics than most F6 “Purebred” Mini Nubians! The reason is by not breeding to a Nigerian Dwarf your getting better Nubian breed Characteristics. Your skipping the airplane ears, the dwarf body type, the dished nose, smaller Udder and teats.

You take a Buck like my Blue Cashmere, breed him to a purebred Nubian Doe with beautiful Udders, excellent attachments, great Conformation and an excellent Pedigree.

This breeding will produce Stunning first generation kids! Smaller stature yes, fantastic Udder Capacity with easy to milk teats! This Doe will milk and show and look like a true Nubian. If you want a smaller goat breed her to a smaller buck with great conformation and breed characteristics.

The whole idea is to bring in new genetics to the Mini Nubian and gaining new bloodlines into the small gene pool that currently make up the Mini Nubian.

I personally love the elegance of the Purebred Nubian, they really aren’t that much taller then my 28” Mini Nubian Buck Blue Cashmere who is a 7th Generation Mini Nubian.

What I don’t like is a short backed, straight nosed, short legged dwarf looking Mini Nubian with wonky ears. I don’t like milking short, poorly placed teats and I don’t like only getting 2-3 pounds of milk per mini Doe. Poor Udder attachments along with no extended fore-Udder or pockets in front of the Udder have no place in my herd.

Every year a few breeders are buying Purebred Nubian Does to breed to their best Mini Nubian Buck, for a better Mini Nubian. Some breeders still breed to Nigerian Dwarf Bucks.

I don’t want to do that because it’s a much longer process which is the 6th generation to Purebred. It takes years of breeding to the right Bucks not just a higher generation. And you still can have wonky ears because genetics can grab genes from generations back and contribute them to the kids.

My mission is to always work towards improving the Mini Nubian Breed, it’s what good breeders do. Always improve the breed every time you breed.
